Did you know?
The closest wild relative of domestic chickens, like Henrique, are red junglefowl. While our commercial layers have been selectively bred to lay over 300 eggs per year, their wild counterparts only lay around 12 eggs per year.
The difference in egg yield between the two species highlights the impact that selective breeding can have on the process of domestication.
